Removing limescaled from kettle?

We have a clear glass electric kettle and i'm wondering the best way to remove the lime scale build up inside. Any hints would be appreciated :)

You can buy kette descaler from the supermarkets. I've used it and it seems effective.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
  • Kill-rock is one of my favourites- you can get it at many hardware stores including robert dyas, the supermarket ones often don't cut it with scale. (I also have a glass kettle, one of the few times i'd recommend a filter jug to slow incidence of scaling-you also get a better cup of tea).

I buy a pack of citric acid crystals and keep it in an airtight tub, you can get it off ebay (people use it for making bath fizzes) Its not that cheap but for a kettle you only need a a couple of teaspoons so 500gram bag last a very long time. It safe to handle, not smelly, not toxic and extremely effective, one rinse and you can use the kettle for drinking water.

you can also keep a solution in an old spray bottle, great for putting the shine on taps, sinks etc.

Cut a lemon into quarters and place in the kettle. Fill the kettle with water and boil the water several times. Then empty and rinse. This will successfully descale your kettle without the use of chemicals. It will also leave your house smelling lemon fresh.

    Vinegar works well too x

Get it in Tesco less than 2 quid for 3 sachets, half fill kettle, bring to boil (after ketle has stopped bubbling or it can fizz over the top), pour in Oust from sachet and wait 10 mins... scale gone, easy

Er don't drink tea in my house - hydrochloric acid (sprits of salt). Just rinse the kettle very well a few times thereafter.

Suppose I should mention to use baking powder to neutralize any left over residue, but I never do.
