Light at the end of the tunnel Ex Spark energy Now British Gas

Options
hi there a few months ago i posted of my troubles with "Spark Energy" (Cheaper Than The Big Six Supposedly) . it all started when i first moved in to my property in november 21st 2008 and the letting agent said i should go with spark energy as its the cheapest especially for anyone with disabilitys (his words not mine) so i signed up not knowin i had post in the mailbox with eon with bills totalling 484 pounds from september 8th o8 someone had used all that, so i rang eon up and still had to pay it hence im payin at 50 pounds a month to eon for something i didnt use. (i wasnt in the property till end of novemeber and i sent my tenancy agreement proving it but they lost it).

so back to spark within 1 month id used 150 pounds extra electricity on a eco 7 meter on top of my 45 pounds dd per month so i was in debt with them (impossible when your not there and just have a tv in your property.) so the months rolled on and spark wouldnt budge even though i kept notifying them about the meter i even emailed pj davies the ceo of spark and he said hed send someone out to look at meter. (it kept sayin rate 1 and rate 4 for a eco 7 meter. nobody ever came and i was still saddled with over paying to spark,

Skip Forward to january 2010 and i signed up with british gas web saver 6 i told them my problems etc and within minutes free of charge they noticed it shouldnt say rate 4 on meter it should say rate 1 and rate 2 . so next tuesday they are phoning me to arrange for them at there expense to change my meter to a proper eco 7 rate 1 and 2 meter not rate 1 and 4 . Thank u british gas:j:j:j a proper company. also british gas have notified me that spark have been over inflating the start and end readings than what i put in which apparently according to them is a common thing with spark. so british gas are goin to dispute with spark and get my money back
:T
theres hope for everyone

    W T F.......

are you mad? you have proof that you were not in the property and you seem to happy to still pay for that period? If they lost the tenancy agreement then get another one from your landlord and send it in registered post.

    Crazy.
  • what i failed to mention regarding e-on was they sent a debt collection letter which was one of many (from the past tenant with no name on it. and i rang e-on up and they still said id have to pay as it goes of estimates before u move into property. do u really think i want to pay for 2 months extra electricity i havent used come on lol and no im not mad.

    Hi rippedofbyspark,

There is certainly no way you should be paying for a debt that is potentially not yours.

It’s normal for start readings and closing readings to be estimated in cases where readings for the relevant dates are not provided by either a meter reading agent or the customer.

An ideal situation would be for L/L or letting agencies to take readings when people move out of their properties, however this does not always happen.

Bark01’s advice is spot on, send a copy of the tenancy agreement by recorded delivery, if the tenancy agreement shows meter readings taken on the dates in question the accounts can be amended and billed accurately.

You’ll then receive an amended bill from the correct date you moved in onwards. The bill amount will also be different if billed to actual reads rather than estimates. Therefore any payments you’ve already made will be taken into account. If the payments exceed the amount of the charges, any overpayments can be refunded. :)

  • Have you had your money back from Spark? My experience was that they overcharged, and then took 12 months to repay. Look in the forums here and on MoneySupermarket (go Utilities, Products & Suppliers, Supplier Reviews) and you'll see that seems to be a pattern. They repeatedly told me "We only have a set amount for repayments per day. We'll repay you in approx 4 weeks." That was 7 months after I stopped being supplied by them. They didn't pay. Ring again, they say the same - only by now it's 4 weeks later. That happened 3 times. It rather looks like they have cashflow problems...
