Assuming Windows 200/XP, the easiest way to reassign drive letters is as follows:

    Start>Settings>Contol Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management

Expand Storage and click on Disk Management. You should see all your drives, now right click on the drive you wish to change and select Change Drive letter and Path from the context menu.

you would need another hard drive and another copy of xp to modify the drive letters as it cant do it while windows is running on the f drive otherwise the computer would crash because it wouldnt know what hd its using

It isnt possible to change the drive letter of the system drive. The only way is to reinstall the operating system again.

It isnt really a problem as long as when you remember that someone says copy this t drive c yours is drive f

I've had this problem myself, the only way around it is install from scratch making sure you create the system partition first after deleting the old one, it should in theory show that it's designated c: at that point before it installs windows on it.
