My fault that I didn't know!!!!

At the end of June my family had a wedding to go to. It was on the Isle of Wight and we decided to take the caravan and stay in the New Forest making a weekend of it.
I booked with the Forestry Commission for two nights. Four adults, and one child.
I booked over the phone and received the confirmation a few days later. The confirmation was incorrect and stated 2 adults and one child. I called them, I was advised no problem that I could sort it out on site and pay any difference in cost to the warden.
We arrived after reception was closed and a sign told us to pick a site and see reception in the morning.
To cut a long story short, at 9.30pm the warden arrived and said we were over subscribed for one pitch and that we had to pull off. Apparently we should have two pitches and our own toilet on each. Well the older kids (grown up) were staying in a two man tent so no toilet in that. In order to comply we had to send them to a nearby hotel at the cost of £160 for the night.
The next day had big argument with the warden, then a discussion with the booking office and in the end had to pull of the site and pay again somewhere more reasonable.
I wrote a letter of complaint explaining the T&C had not been enclosed in the the booking confirmation and that the piece of paper ( it was just a computer print out) had been incorrect.
I wrote to the MD and got a reply from someone else saying it was the "onus of the camper to get the t&c, and that the warden and booking office were completely correct in their treatment of us".
However he was very glad we had given him the opportunity to investigate this situation.
How would you guys reply?
