Electricity Dispute Eon-HELP!!!

Options
Can anybody inform me what the laws are relating to an electricity company not billing you for a long period of time, even though the meter has been read periodically. Where do we stand in terms of paying a very large bill, as they are demanding half of the money, before they will consider a payment scheme. Many Thanks

    Why haven't they billed you?

Have you previously contacted them asking to be billed? If yes, could you prove it if necessary?

Otherwise you are required to pay the appropriate charge as per their tariff calculated based on the amount consumed as recorded by the meter.

Also, how long is a long time? If it's less than a year, you'll owe what you have consumed irrespective of whether you requested a bill earlier.

    Hi lilykitty,

Premier is right, it may be that the billing code of practice will apply if E.ON are found to be at fault for not billing you. This means they can only back bill you for energy used for the last year.

However, this code does depend on a number of factors. Each account will be looked at individually and a decision will be made.

Have you contacted E.ON to ask why you have not received a bill?

How long have you lived in the property?

Did you advise E.ON that you have moved in and gave them your meter readings?

There will be a number of questions to go through to decide if the account does fall under this code, and as Premier has said you may need to prove you have tried to make contact with E.ON.

If you need any more info, just shout up we are happy to help as much as we can.

    Helena :)
