Thinking of upgrading the car...

Hi everyone,

I wonder if you can help as I am a little unsure of what to do. I have a 2000 (W) reg Citroen Saxo (v. basic model) with 76k miles on it, only the second owner and owned since 2002. I have looked after it and serviced in annually - however it's starting to cost more and more to keep on the road and I think it's time for a change. I have looked into valuations and think the car, in mint condition should gat about £800 in part ex value. However, there is a fairly major dent in the passenger side door (looks like it was reversed into by something with a towbar), and a dent in the boot (no paint cracks) which both happened in car parks. I've had a quote of £300 to repair both dents and my question is - is it worth it before I sell? Does anyone know how much this is likely to effect the re-sell or part ex price of it???

Also, I am going through a DMP and will have maybe only £1,000 + sell value of the current one - can anyone recommend something reliable, economical, with 5 doors (prefereably still hatchback)??

Thanks very much gang!

I wouldn't bother repairing it to be honest. It's not worth it, Saxos depreciate in price a lot and you'll want all the money you can for a new car.

Most people who buy it cheap won't be interested in the damage anyway so long as the engine is sound

One thing you can do (depending on whereabouts the boot is damaged), you could go to a scrap yard and buy a bootlid / rear bumper the same colour probably for around £50 each and then swap them over. You'd theoretically have a new boot lid.
