can a house half built be surveyed.

    What for? Stuctural stability? Not really, it's not finished!

    Even a newly built house is going to take a while to settle down - you wouldn't know if it was built on dodgy foundations for a while.

    It can be examined.

    Indeed the council examines part-built houses/extensions all the time to confirm they comply with Building Regulations (ie foundations are deep enough, insulation is thick enough, cement is strong enough etc)

    That is a 'survey' of sorts, but clearly not a full property survey!

    Why the question? What are you trying to achieve?

    It all depends what you mean by half finished. If the roof is on and it's going through it's first fix then yes it can be surveyed or valued by a mortgage company. Problem is mortgage companies now re-inspect on completion before they'll release the money so you don't really gain anything by doing it early. Also, NHBC certificate won't be issued until it's habitable. You can still get a mortgage offer and get it valued, but this will always be subject to a re-inspection on completion. As we're currently finding it can play havoc with completion dates.
