£2k final gas bill - help!

It's impossible for anyone to estimate if your billing is 'about right'. Everyone's usage and efficiency is different. Assuming you have the opening reading and the closing reading, you can calculate the actual units used and deduct the estimated units already billed. What's left are the surplus units that you now have to pay for.
How can you not notice in 3 years that all your bills are estimates? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
It forever annoys me that suppliers assume that people that move into properties 'know' that they must read a meter - you would then be assuming that they had someone responsible in their lives to to tell them to do this. So many people fall through this net - it should be taught in schools instead of freakin' algebra or something. AAAAGHHHH
I know! I mean they only spell it out on every single bill they send out.:doh:0 -

You know what annoys me more?!
Whenever I go to fill the car with Petrol the oil companies expect ME to read the display on the pump and pay the shop the correct amount. I mean, of all the cheek - how can this be my responsibility?!:mad::mad:0 -

LOL oh how true.CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -
Op its not difficult to read meters and then tell your supplier
I do think people though should be made more aware of be more proactive in reading your meterOh, and by the way, you do definitely have a case against Eon if they have not billed you against accurate readings for this long. Writing to you for a reading is not an argument, you could be dyslexic for example, or letters lost in the post etc. Escalate your complaint when you call them and ask to speak to a manager, a complaint will be opened and a complaints handling procedure will be sent to you 48 hours later - after 56 days the ombudsman will take up your case and then you know that it will be dealt with correctly rather than you being fobbed off. They may not even have sent you the '3 consecutive estimates' letter - computer systems are not infallible. Good luck0 -
There tarriffs are there is people want them...
British Gas will text & e-mail you every month asking for updated meter readings if you switch to Energy Smart..
Burying your head in the sand isnt an excuse for not taking responcibility (not aimed at the OP here)0 -
OK, I get it.
We used to get a hell of a lot of junk mail at our flat, a lot of it from EON too... Generally, I'd ditch it and then go check our account online, which always seemed up to date. First time I've been responsible for a gas/electric bill and just did not think about giving meter readings.0 -
When you received your bills and it stated 'estimated reading' on them did you not wonder where the estimation came from then think about getting an actual reading done?
Whenever an estimated bill comes through I always go online/phone up with the actual reading so they can send me another bill based on actual readings. My daughters are my world0 -

If you are getting junk mail, register your household and any previous occupants with the Mailing Preference Service (addressed mail): http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/
and Royal Mail opt out service (for flyers):
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?catId=400126&mediaId=500081
Also always tick (or untick) the little boxes that state whether you do or do not wish to be contacted by the company or other 'carefully selected' companies. Bet if you log in to the EON site you can do this online.
Wading through junk mail, bills and bank statements is part of being an adult; as many of us have found out there are serious consequences to being lax. Remember when you told your mum that when you grew up you'd eat what you wanted and go to bed when you wanted?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
