Hi all
I have gone "wireless":D since last week so now am trying to uninstall the software for the DSL-200 D-link modem?
When I click uninstall it tells me "error loading newdev.dll" when I click ok it then tells me "administrator priviledges are required to install, uninstall or configure the DSL software".
I am the only person who uses this pc and have checked and my account is an administrator one? I have also tried to remove it in control panel and through cccleaner but still get the same message?
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Don't think that it is connected........but I also have a few of other programs that I seem to have uninstalled from my pc including ebay turbo lister 1, Ipod updater, and flashpeak slimbrowser?? but they are still listed when I click "start", "all programs" Also I can't seem to uninstall Channel 4 OD neither?
I would be grateful if someone could give me some advice on how to get rid of these as I am trying to keep my pc as "clean" as possible!
Thanks

what operating system are you using, if your using vista/windows 7 you should be able to right click on the uninstaller and choose run as administrator, failing that use add and remove programs in control panel.... or whatever the vista/7 alternative is (its not hard to find and is quite obvious, something like uninstall software) you should be able to do this for the other software on your computer too.
if you still get errors in uninstalling using the control panel method and run as admin method then there are ways to remove items via the registry, but it wont be a true "clean" uninstall, just means you can remove the entry and files yourself, then run a registry cleaner and hope it cleans up anything left behind by the app.
sorry if its not very clear.0 -
Thanks bobmanuk!
I am using windows XP.
Not sure if I am missing something:o?? But I can't see a "run as administrator" option with uninstall?
I have tried removing them in control panel but still get the same error messages?0 -

yeah XP doesnt use UAC which would be what right clicking and running as administrator would fix.
urm... do you have the installer for the software again? maybe if you run the installer again it sometimes asks you do you want to repair/remove?0 -

Stupid question
....but .....I only have the one account (mine) on the pc and in the control panel info it says computer administrator by my account already so is this ok or do I still need to "log on" as it shows above?
or is that something different? I'm confused!!0 -
when you log in, do you get (its fine if you dont see administrator at the top)

this screen?
if so press ctrl + alt + del and you shoudl be able to type in administrator and the password *should* be blank, unless youve changed it.
but in all honesty, this shouldnt even matter unless your user is just a limited account/standard user, which you should be able to change yourself in control panel > user accounts0 -
I tried doing that when the log on to windows box came up it showed "compaq_user" as the username (me) so I changed it to Administrator with no password and it came up with the message "unable to log on because of an account restriction"??bob_man_uk wrote: »but in all honesty, this shouldnt even matter unless your user is just a limited account/standard user, which you should be able to change yourself in control panel > user accounts
to be honest -Yes that's what I thought too? My account Definitely shows Computer Administrator under my username in the control panel - so I'm still lost!!0 -
