Electric heating

Options
My sister is moving into a property where she has no gas in the property, everything is electric (her cooker, heating etc) and I was just wondering, how much more expensive is gas than electric?

She spends about £35 a month on gas central heating and she has been told to expect to use double that on just heating, is this correct?

Sounds pretty dear to me

It depends what sort of electric heating. Electric is nearly 3 times more expensive, per Kw/h than Gas, so if it is peak time heating (i.e. not E7) then she could end up paying 3 times more than she does now. If it is E7, then double is about right, assuming same insulation levels etc.

Whilst the value of gas is just over half the price of electricity on cheap rate (e.g. typical value of gas is about 3.5p per kWh compared to about 5.5p for E7 night rate), remember that many gas boilers are only about 60% efficient, meaning that for each kWh of energy input, you only get 600Wh output. Or put another way, based on 3.5p per kWh for gas, to get 1kWh output it'll cost about 5.8p.
