Fixed rate monthly saver - best deal?

Please help. In October I set up a 7% fixed saver account with the Abbey National. I went to get my passbook updated today and found out that no money has been transferred from my bank. Rang the bank and it turns out they never received the standing order mandate. I accept this was my fault because I never checked that the standing order started. However, this now means that I am not entitled to the 12 month monthly saver 7% rate because I have reneged on my payments. If you can help with the following questions, it would be great:
1. Do I have any comeback at all with my bank as I cannot prove they received the mandate?
2. What is the best fixed rate monthly saver that I can now access?
Many thanks guys,
Claire

Did Abbey send the standing order form off for you, as they offered to do for me? If so they could be at fault.
I took mine across the road and got my bank to do it directly on their computers, I then checked it had gone in for the first month (I never trust anyone to do anything right!)0 -
You need to go back into Abbey and close the account you have and open a new one. They will manually work out how much interest you are due at 7% on the opening balance and credit it to you. The fixed rate monthly saver is being pulled on Saturday so you need to get the new one open before then.0

Its being pulled? Where do you get your info from? Edit: I gather from your other post on this account that you work for Abbey?
I suspected it would be with the current rates situation so I got one on Dec 23rd while everyone was spending like mad!
Man I hope the Halifax one stays (I have a 6% one and want a 7% one when it matures) but I guess it might not without the competition from abbey
On this note with 3 months to go it would cost me to close the 6% account and get a 7% one wouldn't it? I'm assuming you lose interest for the early months too if you dont complete the year Does anyone know?0 -
Thanks everyone. I'll open another account with Abbey before Saturday. I have to say, the branch staff have been less than informative about what I can do, and have basically said - well its your own fault, and there's nothing we can do.
Hmmm, and I bank with them as well!
Thanks again,
