do dealers not want to sell?
Options
My new car was written off in January , someone hit it while it was being driven by my son and the car had to be scraped off the road-luckily my son was unhurt apart from a few scratches and bruises. It was a simple insurance claim (as soon as we gave up dealing with our own insurers) as other party admitted full iability and we got paid out in a couple of weeks.
So we have an insurance cheque in our pocket and want to buy the same car again this time around 10 months old, went on to the approved dealers site, several dealers in a 100 mile radius had them for sale so I used the online forms to ask for a call back about a specific car. No one called, so I started phoning them, left messages, phoned back left more messages, explained I wanted to go down and buy a car and wanted to know if they still had the one I wanted on their forecourt, but noone would talk to me. I was virtually begging them to take my money.
After 4 days of absolutely no call backs my OH phoned a different garage further away, they have promised us a car to view tomorrow and we have left a deposit on the basis that it is perfect and we are going down to see it.
Do they actually not want to sell any cars anymore or did i just suffer the 'lone female' syndrome?

Soo you, should know better than that..........:)
We are in the market to buy a GSHP and most of the companies aren't getting past stage one. Not returning calls etc so they (mainly) get crossed of the list.0 -
No just unfortunately there a lot of idiots who work in sales.
Hopefully you'll find someone who deserves your business. I've walked out of many a dealership and shop in fact purely because no-one seems interested in talking to you or even acknowledging you.
No doubt you'll get them all phoning back in a few days when you've purchased elsewhere.0 -
Having bought a new car last year I had the same problem with dealers not returning calls. The other major problem was not being spoken to by the sales person (not discriminating both male and female were the same) - my husband came with me to view the cars, but I would ask a question and they would answer my husband. Very irritating. The dealer that did eventually get my money was also the one that spoke directly to me and was happy to answer all my questions.0

Further to my previous post, having worked in sales in the interests of a balanced arguement i would only point out the following.
The problem is half the time the woman will be a desicion maker and half the time they'll act like a decision maker so's to appear independant etc. But then at the last minute have to consult hubby who will then normally want to start the negotiations all over again.
The skill of course is being able to judge which is which. However it is very hard to do, i lost many sales by fully negotiating with the female but then having nothing left in reserve for when the guy bowled in wanting to do his matcho bit. However i gained a quite a few because like the posters on here i treated everyone as buyers until i knew otherwise. Some salespeople will operate the otherway round.0 -

Yes I know my OH did that:eek:. However we do have the garage's agreement that this is a refundable (and very small) deposit as they haven't even got the car yet. If they have it tomorrow then we have to pay the full non refundable deposit and go back in a few days as they want to put it through the body shop to tidy up any rubbing marks , steam clean the interior and do a full service.
I am really hoping though that some of the other garages phone back as I will say that if they had called yesterday I had purposefully left the whole day free so that I could drive down to them and buy the car. However, as each garage had only one of these low mileage 10 month old cars I wasn't prepared to drive 50 miles on the off chance they still had it available, all I wanted to know was whether it was still on their forecourt and they wouldn't even phone me back and confirm that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I've just had this problem with Bristol Audi - the Biggest bunch of jokers ever - I was trying to arrange a test drive for weeks without success and dedspite many promises no-one ever phoned back.
In the end I called Bath Audi who arranged a testdrive within 24 hours and it was all a done deal a couple of days later. I'm picking the car up tomorrow0 -
