    Visa rates currently

    $1.83
    E 1.46 ( not live- believe daily )

Market prices live as I type
    $1.8386
    E 1.4637
True mid prices on ccy exchange

assuming no great changes since daily rate set - thats 0.5% and 0.25% off market mid rates

some card issuers then add a loading ( typically 2.75% ... but some don't! )

Do you use the visa website to check those rates? market started at 1.82, rallied to 1.84 today....would be very strange to have a 1.83 rate for dollars...then i WOULD use visa

    sure mastercard have similiar

you then need to input your card issuer loadding ( Natwide is zero , others often 2.75%)

not sure what time the 1.83% was input...( maybe US market opening this afternoon UK time ... I have access to live market traded exchange rates on a different computer , but turned that off now.. but yes think it climbed a bit today ) so real spread might be more like 1% than the 0.5% quoted .. thats only an example anyway, would be based on time of the transction being converted

Yes their rate is pretty good, if it is real , and if the charge is around zero for certain banks(i believe you on that)...So using the visa is a good alternative, but sometimes I HAVE to use cash. And then the nightmare begins....

Oh well, I was interested in getting feedback about that website...as I have foreign currency in cash in the UK, that I need to convert into pounds. Surely the ATM is not gonna help....neither the visa. The ONLY solution is to gently go to the bank or bureau de change, there is no other way>
