Transferring ownership at DVLA
Options
To cut a long story short, my OH acted as a Guarantor for her brain-dead son on a bank loan for a car and, you've guessed it, he's defaulted and we're left to pick up the pieces
Question is, although we have physical control of the car (after he dumped it o/s our house and posted the ignition key) how do we get a new V5 for the car through DVLA to prove we are the new owners ?
He only paid about 2 or 3 payments on it and we'll be lumped with the other 80 odd and we havent got the original V5 and not surpisingly, he isnt responding to his mother's phone calls
Thanks for any advice

go on dvla website it is a lot better thann this site for information relating to the dvla.
They will issue you with a V5 in a month or so unless he disputes it. V62:-

If he did dispute it (which sounds unlikely) then DVLA would ask both parties to bring vehicle to an inspection. As you have car and keys then only you could bring it so would get logbook anyway.
Do note that the logbook only shows registered keeper not legal owner. Also you may wish to speak to finance company to inform them.
