Pure EVOKE-1 Silver £49.95

The Pure Evoke 1 was the first high volume, mains powered portable DAB radio that sold for under £100. It was, and indeed still is, the best selling DAB radio to date.

With its stylish retro looks, the Evoke One still looks fresh, and the build quality is a cut above most rivals - the casing is veneered with real wood. As you'd expect from this best seller, the sound quality is excellent, with the small size being little hindrance to a large, expansive sound.

The Evoke 1 is still a real contender, with sound, style and quality that few can match. And now, thanks to your friends at Richer Sounds, it's even available at half its original price! Snap up this DAB bargain today.

I do not understand why anyone would make, sell, or buy a digital radio which only operates in mono. It takes all sorts!

    Who does that then ?

The Evoke 1 is a stereo DAB digital radio, that has one speaker as standard, but you can add a matching speaker if you wish.

You can plug in stereo headphones or connect to your stereo hi-fi

It's all down to choice! Some people may prefer a mono receiver for space, budgetary or style reasons! Just because it's DAB, doesn't mean that it has to be stereo. As stated above, you can (like I have with my Evoke 1), buy an additional speaker if you so wish.

The Evoke 1, in my view, is an excellent DAB radio.

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

He does have a point and as well as him not having to buy it if you cant take any criticism of your post you`d better take your own advice and not post. the pure evoke 1 was a decent DAB radio but it is dated now

In what way is it dated? It was designed with an old fashioned style so can hardly be any more out of date than when it was launched. As for the sound quality I don't think there are that many 'new' DAB radios with sound quality in this league. I have one and a Bug and both are used daily.... would be happy to hear of better DAB radios than Pure in terms of sound quality/reception.

One 'problem' with this radio is that it is not a current model and you can't get the extra speaker very easily for it if you wanted one. I think I may be tempted to pay the £25 more and get the Evoke-XT which has an alarm/clock

With almost all portable radios there is little point in having two speakers anyway because to get true stereo you need to have your speakers a suitable distance apart relative to your listening position. So even if you've spent a few of hundred quid on a nice little mirco hifi system you'll not get anyting in stereo if you put the speakers near each other. On top of that even if have your speakers a suitable distance apart if you listening position isn't correct you won't hear much in stereo either.

So these DAB radio manufacturers who only put one speaker on their units are just being sensible. The best ones tend to only have one speaker because the one speaker is a very good one.

I completely agree. Some people are the marketing teams dream. I see that you can buy another speaker for it. How quaint.
