Green metropolis? Is it worth it?

I've got quite a few paperbacks to sell somewhere, and I wondered which was better - green met or Amazon? Have no experience of green met and no selling experience with Amazon so not sure what the pros and cons of either are!

Please help :)

  • GM - very slow.
    Amazon - high fees.

    Both are free to list.

Personally I use both, ff has summed it up quite well though, need to make sure anything you list on amazon wont cost you money to sell and greenmet is slow but does seem to be picking up slowly.
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

There are threads for both and you might want to have a quick wander through some of the pertinent posts:

I can't find the greenmetropolis thread as I have a new PC and have lost my bookmarks, but someone may well be able to post it for you.

  • I used both too when I was selling books. There are pros and cons to both. books don't sell quickly unless you have a sought after one - greenmet has a list of it's sought after ones so check there.

This is the greenmet thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=171980&highlight=greenmetropolis

One tip though , if they are ex chart ones they are not really saleable online at all due to the high cost of postage. The best ones to sell are odd quirky ones, or study books.

  • Actually Greenmetropolis also sell on Amazon; so I just use them and they list my books both on Greenmetropolis.com and Amazon.co.uk

It is a little slow but it depends what you've got. If you have Dan Brown and JK Rowling books, you'll be drawing your pension before they sell, but current bestsellers go down well.

I've made about £150 at least since last February with little effort; just added 43 new books to my listing so hoping things will pick up.

I find my business non-fiction and personal development books sell quite well. So do diet books.

I recently took around 25 paperback books which had been listed on Greenmetropolis for about a year along to a car boot sale and sold the lot for £8.

As the woman who bought them was leaving my stall, I asked if she was a trader and she was in a manner of speaking: she told me she sells the books to raise money for seeds and compost. She grows the plants and stocks a stall at an annual local festival to raise money for a local hospice. She then reached in her handbag and gave me a flyer with all the details of the three day event and her stall.

Where does she sell them? Greenmetropolis.

Hubby snatched away the cash bag before I could run after her and give her the £8 back.

    I felt dreadful.

    Hi,

I have listed about 12 books on Greenmetropolis(about 40days ago) and still no any sell. I think it is much slower than Amazon. :(

Everytime I list a book on GM it seems to sell quickly (last one within an hour) so like others have said it just depends what your selling.
