Personal loans...Advice required
Options
Hiya all,
I've never been a stranger to personal loans and finance, probably to excess in the past.
Around this time last year, I completed payments on a couple of loans. One was a was a 5k consolidation loan from egg over 5 years. Another was a finance agreement over 4 years for a car. The apr on this was quite high as at the time of purchase, I needed a car and given my poor credit rating at the time, it was the best I could hope for.
Personal circumstances at home last year dictated that I was generally skint, even when both loans were complete, I found myself taking on to much, as my partner was in a worse financial state than myself, this meant I had quite a few dd returned and my account was always on the overdraft limit.
Pressure told and I moved out into my own place which cleaned me out, taking into account, deposits and rent in advance etc etc..this was in august. Next few months saw me not saving alot, having to buy stuff for the flat as and when I could afford it, however, all utilities were all arranged and paid by dd, plus sky/mobile phone/land line/internet etc etc and a payment has not been missed. My rent is always up to date and never in arrears and I am registered as living here on the electoral roll.
I generally managed to reduce my overdraft a little.
Christmas arrived and as well as stuff for my 2 kids, my car needed taxing and mot during in dec which is poor timing and I was back on my limit, but everything was still paid.
Now, I'm still overdrawn but I budget and should have a disposable income of around 450 a month. I need a new car so I'm considering visiting the bank(Barclays) to enquire.
I have no idea what so ever, how credit scores work, I have no idea what mine is and nor do I want to subscribe to some dodgy web agency to find it out But going on what I have told you above, I have not missed any payments since I moved in, in august, I do have a disposable income and that should become apparent now that the expensive part of the year is out of the way, but I have only been living here for 6 months, oh yeah, I am 35 and I have been in employment for the same employer for 20 year, am I likely to get refused if I apply for a loan, as I need a loan of about 3k to get a reasonable car. I just don't want refusals blotting an already poor history. Will the nice man in the bank give me an idea of how a potential application will go or do you think I should stick it out for a few more months, get my account, well into the black and then go and see them without any fear?
Its just my car is a complete shed and I have to drive 250 miles a week to and from work, and she has not got much more to give :rotfl:

Just thought I'd add that I have never missed a loan finance payment of any sort, be it, egg or barclays etc etc. Any payments I missed were generally utility bills. I have no idea if this counts for much.0
