Students doing summer placements can recieve extra loan

If you are a student, or know one, who is planning to do a summer placement (that is a mandatory part of their course), then they can get a letter from their placements office and send it to the SLC saying the end of their year is extended to whenever... should recieve extra loan.

If it's a mandatory part of the course that all students are required to attend, then it should already be incorporated into the term dtaes provided by the university. Therefore, the Loan Course Loan should already be in the assessment.
  • I am still in the process of applying for it, and I am grateful that you remind us here in this forum, what about you ? were you able to avail of this one too?

Yep, I'm on placement this summer, so once I have it sorted, I need to get a letter from my placement office, then send it to the loans company and extra money is mine! :)

Many unis offer 'with industrial experience' ... but if you don’t get a placement they drop you to your normal degree title.

Rule of thumb, if you have to pay some sort of fees to your uni still then you count and get a smaller loan / grant than your other years

The above is something that's slightly different, by the sounds of things. OP makes it seem as if it's a placement between course years, so just over the summer holidays.
  • but what if the placement is not a mandantory requirement and is something which the student wants to do to gain extra experience. So will the sandwich year count to gain extra loans? i.e. it is not mandantory but encouraged by the uni?

If the course is classed as a sandwich course, so is 4 years. Then you can get it. Just make sure your circumstances are updated with SLC. (as you may only have a 3 year course on there, you would need to change it to a 4 year sandwich course)

If it's not mandatory, then it's not paid for by the SLC.
