checking bank statements

very rarely check my bank statements

today just by chance checked mine noticed

£20 unauthorised overdraft fee
£30 unpaid direct debit fee whilst overdrawn

checked my account could not see what it related too

phoned the abbey

apparantley i was overdrawn by 17p for a period of 12 hours
and they wanted to charge me £50

the chap on the other end of the phone immediately said as a gesture of goodwil he would refund( didnt even have to go into my rant about illegal bank charges) think he was more embarrassed by the small amount i was overdrawn

2 never thought id say this but i havent had any charges in years ive been a good boy for quite some time

shame you cant just write to them and ask for any charges that have been taken to be paid back rather than list specifics

You could keep that £50 as a little buffer to help you never go into the red (or over the limit) again.

You have the right to ask Abbey what they have charged him in interest and late payments fees etc for the last 6 years. This will cost him £10.
It is then up to him to decide whether he thinks they have been applied unfairly and take it from there.

They don't have any obligation to tell you how much you've been charged, per se.

A data protection request would not show this information in the form required either, but together with all other transactions on the account.
