Final bill issues (NPower)
Options
Hey all,
I've just handed over a flat I was renting and I have just received my final bill.
I was rarely in the flat as I was just getting back with my current girlfriend, so much so, that when paying £50 a month direct debit, my first bill was £36 in credit.
I never received any more bills until my final bill so I've not been able to monitor each month's costs.
What's worrying is that my final bill was £0.00p. Which over a 6 month period, paying £50 per month, you would have thought I would either be in credit or debt.
What's even more worrying is that the bill is VERY basic and doesn't contain my gas usage/cost even though it's a dual fuel account.
Has anyone ever experience NPower hiding credit?
Is there anyway I can check the costs they are charging me? I know how much energy I have used and how much each unit is, does anyone know of a calculator I can use to check?
Cheers
Gavin

You can work out the cost of the final bills yourself.
You have the closing readings you gave to them when you moved out. You have already received a bill from them, so just subtract the end reading of that bill from the readings you gave them and that is the usage to be billed on the final bill. Then take into account your £50 payments made since the last bill.
The electric will already be in kwh but the gas units will need to be converted to kwh, the method will vary depending on what type of meter you have.

Was the first bill an estimate? If it was use the meter reading when you took over the property. If not use the end reading on that bill and the final meter reading you gave npower. There should be instructions on how to work out the bill on the back of it.
You can monitor monthly costs by taking your own meter readings every...0 -
Thanks for replying
I received my gas bill this morning after contacting them last night. I wish i hadn't now lol £130 in debt.
I was taking regular meter readings but I didn't know how to calculate the costs each month.
Thanks again

Hi gRoberts - You are right to be suspicious and Final Bills are not Final as it's not unknown for a further Final bill to be presented, sometimes years later.
If your previous Dual Fuel bills have had the Gas & Elec figures on the same sheet of paper, it's a fair bet that NPower have neglected to include the Gas and it's even a better bet that they will realise this later.
You comment that the bill, (Elec?), you have is 'Basic' - does that mean it doesn't include Start & End meter readings and details of use and charges ?
Because if it doesn't you are entitled to these details
You say you have your present meter readings, and you also have your last bill.
Fuel charges have not varied a great deal in the last 6 months, so by applying the tariffs on you previous bill to what Gas & Elec you have used, will give you a close appx. figure of what NPowers final bill should be, less of course all those £50 D/Debits

Dogshome,
Thanks for replying.
I gave NPower a final meter reading on Monday morning is the last time I had used anything. They were also notified that I am no longer in possession of the property.
Anyhoo. It appears they sent me another bill with my gas on which has debt on.There goes a decent chunk of my bond etc.
