I don't have Adobe Photoshop and anyway hear it takes an age to master.
I have scanned a document and need to alter the dates and then print it out, is there any free software I can install that will allow me to alter text?
IE it will recognize the text format and edit in that font style?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Normally when you scan a document it is scanned as a picture file. What format is the document in, ie what is the three letter extension?
Generally to edit scanned documents you need to scan it using OCR software which tries to 'read' the actual characters you're scanning. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
I scanned it as jpg. In paint I can't find how you add/change text? Whats important is that the font is recognized.0

If you scanned it as a JPG you could use paint or similar to type on it but you would be wriitng over the image. It would be like using a typewriter to edit the text on a photo.
Normally when you buy a scanner you get some free OCr sofwtare with it. It's really the only way you'll be able to do it.It's my problem, it's my problem

How can you use text in paint? I cant seem to find an option that would allow me to type?
I can use the eraser to wipe out text and replace with background colour, ie white. But can I then type in that space? Thats all I want to be able to do really!0 -
A bit of a long shot for you but if you have access to a University library that has a copy of Cicero software, that would allow you to do what you want.0

Think I have worked it out, der!...Ok final question is 72 the max size of font in paint? can you go any bigger?0
-
You can go bigger. Highlight the font size in that box and type in your font size. I think the maximum size is determined by the size of your monitor. Probably goes to infinity0

Try TOPOCR. One of the top programs I have used. Also free, light and portable.
