Rightmove & Requesting Further Details

I use rightmove to browse and if I see anything I like I request details so that my partner can have a look at them as she doesn't get time to use the internet and sometimes it is so much easier to decide which houses to go and view while you are sat down, discussing the brochures.

What make me mad is when you request details and the estate agent then emails you a link, to exactly the same page you have already viewed.

What is the point, apart from cutting their costs.

This particular agent valued our house last week and arranged for us to view a house. They didn't follow up with a feedback call and when we rang them the lady on the phone wasn't very good and after 20 mins it turned out the house we viewed had had an offer accepted.

This agent is also one of the more expensive in our area. Needless to say we wont be going with them !

This actually the way I was trained to deal with enquiries, by the Rightmove rep when we joined. We soon discovered it wasn't to everybody's satisifaction so we now e-mail the link & send details in the post when they are requested.

Had the property you viewed had an offer on it before you viewed it or did it come in afterwards? Don't forget the agent is acting on his clients instructions, they may have requested the property stay on the market after the offer had been received, maybe until the solicitors or survey had been instructed.

This is standard practice and most people are happy to receive the details by email as post can often take days to arrive, therefore, you stand more of a chance of the property being SSTC before you get the details.

You can add a message when you send the request, for example "please send paper details by post only"

Try it next time you request details
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)

The point I'm making is that they are sending me a link to a page that I have already clicked to via rightmove.

We do it slightly different, on rightmove we have the basic description photographs and floor plans, when we get an email asking for further info we send a link to our website which displays the FULL details and all photographs, but, if the person asked us to send paper details in post then we would do.

The problem maybe that the agent is assuming that as you are using the tinternet to request more info, you want to receive the requested info in the same way. We display the full details on Rightmove and used to find it odd that people would request the full details when they are clearly displayed, but it seems some people want tangible details they hold onto & refer to.

The Rightmove "Request more details" is often met with no response or a less than useful response. If you are serious about getting the details, the only way you will succeed is giving them a call. The requests agents receive are sometimes generic, and other times the agent is simply apathetic. If you are serious about the property the assumption is that you will call them. Only good agencies respond with a word doc or pdf with further details that make for a good print, but in my own experience they were thin on the ground...
