What is the worst that could happen then??

I wrote a few days ago about my terminally ill husband and how I just cannot afford to pay my debts anymore (i owe about £7k)
I have written to them to ask if they'd write them off (with hospital notes as proof etc etc)
If not, I guess I will be sending token payments (which I plan to send in a few days anyway - £1 each)
I genuinely CANNOT afford to pay them, but wondering what they could do?! Could I end up in prison?!!!! Can they make me go bankrupt?
What are your predictions??!!
TIA

Forget prison. It is a civil matter not a criminal one.
Secondly, the worst that could happen is you becoming bankrupt.
Others will come along soon I hope.

So sorry to hear about your husband, it's hard enough without debt worries.
I sadly have no advice as I lack any experience in this field, but bumping this in the hope someone with the right knowledge will be along.
Wishing you all the best.

Would anyone really pay for me to go bankrupt (i mean a creditor) with relatively low debts?? (fingers crossed heh;))0

Prison is technically only a possibility for failing to pay council tax as far as I know. However to get put in prison you would have to be not paying your council tax and then for it to go to a hearing and then a judge would have to decide whether you were deliberately not paying or just useless with money (neither of which really apply to you) and then the judge would then have to decide whether or not to send you to prison. I don't think very many people are sent to prison for not paying council tax and given your situation I think this would cause public outrage and be highly unlikely.
Your debts are relatively small so I can't see that it would be worth your creditors trying to make you bankrupt - although you never know. Either way sadly you aren't in a position to do anything about it.
All you can do is your best and deal with any problems as they come up as best you can.
If you get any problems from any of your creditors then post on here for help and phone one of the debt charities. Like I think I said on your previous thread they could try and cause problems and be difficult but hopefully not.

There are lots of things they can do to get their money back - they could send bailiffs, they could go for a charging order, they could make you bankrupt etc but it's all just could's at the moment - they could just be helpful and nice, they could get bored and go away, they could sell the debt on, or loose the paperwork or anything.
There are far too many different options to really consider them all and you can't worry about them all as you would tie yourself up in knots.

Im sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing, if the debts are unsecured (i.e. credit card) then all they can do is issue defaults, get CCJs, send bailiffs if you don't pay the terms of a CCJ (be it just £1)
I know someone who went BR for about £10k, so if you have no assets (no house, no savings, no unclaimed pension) then BR is an option but does cost £510 without been on income support, otherwise £310. Be it is a very serious thing to do and you should discuss all your options with either national debtline / CCCS who both offer free proffesional support.
As above non payment of debts is a civil offence, so possessions is all that is at risk. With regards to writing off debt they only usually do it when the account holder is the one that is terminally ill.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

I'll graciously send off my £1 a month to each of them and hope they co-operate.... I don't own a house, my car is worth £200, i have nothing they can take so...
Can bailiffs only be sent round if I didn't pay if I was given a CCJ?
Would a CCJ almost be a good thing, as surely they could see I'm not making anything up in court?
I have sent hospital letters and confirmation I am now his full time carer, so lets hope they play nicely...i really can't cope with anything else:( Just wish £7k would magic up from somewhere:(0 -

...so why don't you go for a debt relief order?
