Moving House

Hello Everyone,
i am new and have a question,We will be moving house soon and the house we are moving to has pre payment meters, well we dont want them and want to remain having standard meters like we have always had.We have recently switched suppliers to EON for both electricity and gas and want to take them with us.The main thing is how long will it take to get the meters changed and will it cost anything to have it done?.
We know we can take our EON package with us,well we were told we can anyway, but we do not want pre payment meters, there is a chance we will have access to the house we are buying before the move date as they have emigrated and the parents have the keys so we should get access no probs.
Any info on this would be great, thanks :)

Getting standard(i.e.credit) meters depends on your credit rating.

Unfortunately you have no option but to initially use the present supplier in the house, you cannot 'take EON with you.'

You cannot touch the meters until you are the legal tenant/owner.

As soon as you are in the house you can set in motion the process for changing the supplier and meters - it takes several weeks.

Some companies charge for changing the meters, others don't. I believe I read that EON charge £50??

P.S. When you move in check there is no debt on the meter - there is often a daily charge that accrues - and with the previous occupants having emigrated!!! Contact the utility company the day you move in.

    Hi ScotsDude

As Cardew says, you will initially have to use the company currently supplying your new house with energy.

If this is us, as an existing customer, it may well be possible to remove the Prepayment Meters. It very much depends on your individual circumstances.

We will look at things like whether you own or rent the new property, how long have you been an E.ON customer and your previous credit history with us. We may also need to do a credit check with an external agency.

The charge to replace Prepayment Meters is currently £50 per meter. However, this is sometimes waived where existing customers are moving house. Again, it very much depends on the individual circumstances.

I would suggest giving us a call, provided we are the supplier, as soon as you take over responsibility for the new property. We can then look at your individual circumstances and advise accordingly.

Sorry if this is a bit vague ScotsDude but hope it is of some help. Good luck with the house move.
