Wiggletots diary to wriggle FREE!

Options
I have been on these boards for a couple of years but my old user name was way too obvious as to who I am and now I've decided to start a diary I don't want anyone to recognise me! So I'm starting a fresh, and determined to succeed!

I've procrastinated, buried my head in the sand and talked about this debt for too long and now DH and I are doing something about it. First up a big thank you to In My Dreams who started her diary, with a level of debt similar to us, and has inspired me to believe that it can be done with a little bit of hard work and determination. And also that the support on this board is fantastic for spurring me on.

Our debt consists of existing 'stuff' DH had when I met him (single dad with 2 children and no support from their mother) and my inability to say 'no' since we've been together. DH's kids live with us but are growing up and want to be out with their mates rather than the 'olds'!. DH knows we have the debt but is still coming to terms with it as I've always been the one that looks after the finances (or not as the case may be!).

Our debt is made up as follows:
Natwest Credit Card £1,350.92 (£160 owed by MIL)
Barclaycard £960.41 (£50 reclaimable from the vet)
Unsecured loan £65,392.02 (Long story, only way out last year when in a VERY sticky situation)
Overdraft £1,018.61
Vodafone bill £80.00 (currently in dispute)
TOTAL £68,801.96

I went through our statement of affairs last year so know that we have the best rates on everything apart from our mortgage, and this is a work in progress. All I really need to do now is get DH to remove his head from the sand and make some extra cash to get rid of these debts!

The target for the year is to pay off £17,000, that is the monthly payments to the loan and clearing the credit cards, overdraft and vodafone bill.

I have started listing items on ebay that were once loved and now unused, from within our house, and I have also secured casual work near home so this should raise some extra cash. Once upon a time I started matched betting but didn't do much so I may start that up again and try and use up the remaining deals that I never got round to.

As many others before me have said, any support gratefully appreciated and the odd kick up the bum gratefully received!

  • Sat and opened todays post and had a nice surprise of 0% on balance transfers with Tesco CC. I thought I'd cancelled this card so when I rang and they said no it was a bonus. Only small credit on there but enough for the Barclaycard balance so that's been transferred. Just have to find a 0% offer for DH for the NatWest and that will take the pressure off a bit :D
