Travellers cheques in spain

I am going to marbella in a couple of weeks and i was wondering if anyone knows roughly what sort of commission places charge to change these. going to mainly use the ATM, but the other half would be happier taking a few of these too just incase we have problems with the card. have applied for nationwide card but not sure if it will come back in time.

I applied for my Nationwide card (in the branch so it was accepted there and then) yesterday and they said it would take 5 working days to get my card and pin so you should get your card in time, we go to Majorca in 17 days and I'm confident we won't have a problem. I still think it might be good to have a few TCs as backup.

We took travellers cheques last year to Menorca, some places like resturants accepted them and charge NO commision but other places charged. Can't remeber how much exactly, might have been about 3% but not sure.

Didn't realise people still used TCs in Spain. The Nationwide card is straightforward to use. I've never had a problem.

I've been pretty much all round the world and NEVER had a problem with my Nationwide cards (debit and credit). Take some spare Euros with you if you are concerned about the card.
