Again Barclaycard Poor Show

 having just received my card n letter, the credit limit was poor. On speaking to someone who could in my opinion not speak clearly about raising the credit limit. I was informed that first I had to activate the card for him to proceed - RUBBISH. Then got put on hold for you've guessed it an eternity & hay presto got CUT OFF.

I rang back straight away, to speak to a further individual, whom I had to ask to 'repeat the question please'. This customer service advisor then asked the same questions as what I already filled in on the web site when I applied for the card! (no this was over the top of security) I informed him that for a Platinum card which people understand as being 'the best' my credit limit (which now has become apparent is set for all customers) is not enough and I would like is raised. He advised that this is not possible I then was put on hold again. A female then started to go around the same waffle, so I explained in a strong manner that another current credit card of mine opened up with a much bigger limit almost double. So considering this was platinum?? anyway Barclaycard you have now lost MONEY -which I thought you were in the business of obtaining??? £35k per annum Joke complete joke even I wanted to complain on their web site I have to register, then they have all my details for which they should not have if I'm not a customer. data protection.

Barclaycard are in the 'business of obtaining' business with customers they wish to do business with up to a credit limit they feel is appropriate given all the risk factors involved.

As you received the card the account was open and you were a customer, they legally have to keep your details for 6years now.

Most card providers start with a limit and then consider increasing it after 6months or so based on the way you have managed the account in that time. Generally large opening limits are not nearly as easily available as they were a few years ago.

  • Barclaycard are entitled to give you whatever they feel is correct when assessing your circumstances.

I am not even sure what a lot of your post means, such is the poor levels of grammar.

If you are not happy with Barclaycard, take your business elsewhere.

Barclaycard do give smaller credit limits - perfect monthly spending cards I think - have others cards for 0% deals or balance transfers.

Dont even waste your time trying to talk to them on the phone - if you cant do what you want on the website your doomed im afraid, the representatives dont speak English. :wall::wall::wall:

Have you considered that this might be the reason that the Barclaycard offer is low - because their credit check on you gives them some concern that you could be overextending your ability to service your potential debt levels.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

    What was the limit?

They gave me £20k across two cards which didn't start out this way but most of this was granted whilst I was a student. I just made sure it was paid off every month and then every few months they would raise it, before I left uni I had about £15k limit and it has risen since.

No point complaining get spending, but pay it off in full every month, they will see they are not making money and raise your limit. The closer you can spend to the limit and pay it off the more they will give you.

PS I'm not sure what you feel coming on a web forum and spouting nonsense about how unfair it is you got a small credit limit (oh boo hoo) is going to achieve

That's Barclays Bank mate they won't deal with Barclaycard complaints.

Anyway, OP is fighting a loosing battle here from the outset.

Clearly doesn't understand how credit scoring works, how credit cards work, or how limit decisions are carried out.

That's fair cop, everyone has to learn at some point, but it's clear from the OP that this is the kind of chap that couldn't care less about how anything works or how to get something done, just stamps his feet like a toddler anytime anything doesn't go his way.

Open your eyes mate and accept useful information about the system instead of throwing a temper tantrum ;)

  • i have just got a barclaycard gold issued with a £1500 starting limit. as mentioned earlier they seem to be willing to up it every couple of months as long as the account is managed correctly (according to my brother).
i think the days of "proper" card issuers handing out card with thousands of pounds limits are long gone, they seem to want to see how you manage your fiances before they take chances with you.
