What can I make from polyester scarves

I have a lot of brightly coloured scarves - the type you wear over a jumper. They never get used nowadays and I wondered what I can make with them. Maybe a gift idea, or something for the home.
Any ideas please?

Hi Budgeteer
In my bedroom I have two on the walls, and one on the wall in the spare room. One is embellished with sequins i put on by hand. I think they are really pretty
I got them in a second hand shop and two have flowers and the one in the spare room is black and white pattern i can't think the name of. Similar to this
Not sure if there is another thread - will have a look.
Could you put round curtain poles, ummm decorate plant pots, rag rug type decoration for the wall or as a present ... I'll think............
No threads that I can see.
On my to do list is this . I got a set of large knitting needles, and a bag of scrap clothes to try with
I am going to try making a !!!!!! cover
Only i couldn't get my head round it the first time I tried:oA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

The fabric would be very nice for lavender bags.
You can use then for a top tablecloth on an occasional table (over a floor length one, or not, as you prefer)0 -
Cushion covers would be great, but if the fabric was quite flimsy you would have to make a plain base in muslin or other light cotton fabric to stitch the scarf fabric on first.
Also, if any of these scarves is made of quite resistant fabric, they would be great turned into lightweight shopping bags that can be rolled very small and carried inside your handbag. If you want instructions on how to make them, see https://www.morsbags.comFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
You can make roses from them. Put a pencil in the middle and twirl until the rose is made then affix from the back.

Wow, you must be really hungry! No doubt someone will be along with a recipe for scarf soup shortly. :whistle:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

I had a skirt as a teenager made from scarves - it was my total favorit for years..very simply made - about six scarves - all sown together - on two adjoining sides - so you would have a something a bit like an umberella ...wow this is a bad description ! - but with triangles dangling down - then you cut the sewn together point off - so you can pull it over your waist then you elasticate it by folding over and threading the elastic through -
gives you a long hankerchief type hemline...oh for the days when i had the legs to wear it..and the confidence come to that..also you can make quite fun tops by simply folding over a corner and threading through with cord to use as a halter neck...and then knot the obvious spare corners round the back... I am assuming these are square...if not then completely ignore me....:DFight Back - Be Happy0 -
Thanks for all the ideas Zippy:T I already knit so I'd like to do something different - Wall hanging sounds nice. I'm also going to see if I can use one or two to decorate plant pots, as we have lots of plain ones around. Oh, and I also like your idea of winding round a curtain pole. I actually did this with a voile curtain panel once and it look great.zippychick wrote: »Hi Budgeteer

Yes, I understand the skirt technique. What a good idea. I'm not confident enough yet to do one, but I reckon I could fold over the corner of a scarf and thread cord through to make a fun halter-top.
Thanks:T0 -
Glad you have some good ideas! Pics when done
