Bypass valve.....

Question for the experts.....

We have recently upgraded two radiators from singles to doubles.

These are run off a potterton promax 32 he plus heat only combi.

Connected to a mega flow with (red expansion tank ) running at 1.5 bar.

All radiators are blead with no air in the system

When the bolier reaches temperature and turns the burner off, but the pump is still running several radiators make a ping/clunk/running water noise.

All radarors but one have trv fitted.

Now the plumber that fitted the radiators is comming back to adjust the
bypass valve which he said he adjusted when fitting the new radiators.

Now I know he knows what he is doing.

My question what does this bypass valve do, and why having it set too high does it cause noises in the radiators???

Thanks

Rags

  • Hi

I assume you have a large system with a 32kw boiler?
The bypass you mention might just be a gate valve or similar if he keeps adjusting it.
If it is then an auto bypass would do the job better. An explanation as well

    Thanks for that.

It has 16 radiators of diffent sizes over three floors.

I've looked at the info you linked too and we appear to have an automatic one
in the airing cupboard. It has a red dial with numbers. So I asume it's set as required.

Can you expand and maybe explain why if the automatic valve is set wrong the radiators may make noices?

    Thanks for your help

  • Hi

I thought the explanation in the link covered it?
Is it fitted in the right place ? Correct way round? Blocked? Have you eliminated all the air in the system?

That's about all I can say from here.

because the pump is still pumping and if the bypass is set to high then the bypass will not work .
