Natwest Student Account - Frederickson International

I need some advice!

I received a call today from Frederickson International saying that my Natwest student account overdraft debt had been passed over to them. The Natwest account was originally opened in 2005. Fredericksons have told me I owe them just under £1400 - the original amount of the debt. I have been paying Triton/Natwest £50 a month for years now, and have reduced my debt to £588.59. After contacting Natwest, they have assured me that they will contact Frederickson and amend the amount I owe. After 4 phone calls to Fredericksons they have told me they have no record of this and I still owe the full £1400.
Again, I contacted Natwest and they told me they have in turn rang Fredericksons and have amended the debt. This hasn't happened according to Fredericksons. They have 'kindly' put this debt on hold until the 'dispute' has been clarified.
What do I do?
They told me that they can see that I have made payments but cannot accept this as proof of payment...?!
This is the last debt I have left over from my Uni days, i have no problem paying it off bit by bit, but I will not agree a payment plan with them until they have the correct amount on my records. All the useful 'customer service' people tell me is that is the amount that was passed over so they have to claim it.
Any help at all would be very much appreciated. I was bullied by debt collection agencies for too long after uni - I will not put up with it again.

I would ask Natwest/Triton to confirm to you in writing how much is outstanding on the debt. Then forward it on to Frederickson International, however you should not have to do that really. It should be just a case of calling Natwest and asking them to forward the details to Frederickson International.
