I'd say try the dry cleaners, you may have to try a few to see if any offer bag cleaning services, but your not going to lose much out of a yell.com search and calling a few numbers up to ask.

    ^^^ I agree! ^^^

I also got a Vivienne Westwood bag from Ebay which arrived looking like it was used as a make-up bag. The lining was covered in foundation and I would not put my belongings in it until I'd had it cleaned at my local dry cleaners. I got it back looking much better so it's definitely worth a try :)

I cant be of much help but I was in a similar position when I bought my second hand car from a smoker. for the first few weeks it reeked of cigs and I honestly thought it would smell like that forever , however after leaving all the windows & tailgate open whenever possible it gradually fadedafter a few weeks. Its been a year now since I bought the car and I cant smell anything now.

I asked for advice on a car cleaning forum and a radical idea was to go to a car valeter that has an ozone machine . Apparently ozone removes all smells completely. Maybe you could find one locally and get your car & handbag done at the same time by leaving your handbag in the car.

    Good luck with your handbag!!

What shocks me more is that you continued to use it!
After a couple of uses I started putting a towel behind her, but kept putting vinegar on the chair all the time to clear the smell. She couldn't sit up at all till she was a year old and I had to put her somewhere, and the chair was essential as she had started to push her way out of the chair we originally had (so I bought more secure chair), the one I bought off ebay was £30 but they are £100 new.

I can tell you I was ready to throw it in the bin at first but that's not very mse is it, and glad I didn't as the smell faded in no time.

I also have a 4 and 8 year old so need somewhere secure to put her while I'm preparing family meals etc..

id try the newspaper and hanging it in the fresh air.
perhaps some dried lavender in bags inside and leather cleaning wipes for the outside?

When I bought stuff from ebay that smelt of smoke I hung it ouside in the fresh air, that always did the trick. I wouldn't expect to get money off an item because of it, most people state now whether they smoke, I would expect someone to ask if it was going to bother them.

Some of things that people have suggested can actually be detrimental to the bag and cause more harm than good. I can absolutely guarentee that this tip will remove the smell from your bag 100% completely.
If you can make enough room inside your freezer to accomodate the bag, place your bag inside a carrier bag loosely (don't fold the carrier bag tightly round the bag) and sprinkle some coffee on the freezer floor, or the floor of the drawer next to the bag and leave it overnight. I know it sounds completely ridiculous, but I promise you it will work and you will be amazed.
  • Kim and Aggie always use Bicarbonate of soda, as this is a natural deodoriser, this should absorb the nasty smell. But £100 seems a lot to pay for a bag. Bid tv has some lovely leather bags starting about £15 on a good day. theyre good quality, and wide range of colours. ive bought a few now and had nice comments.
