Ipod dock/connector broken

Hiya

I would like some advice please.

I bought my husband an 80gb iPod for his birthday in September and this week, on docking the iPod to our stereo, the connector has crumbled - to the point where we can only charge the ipod and not connect to iTunes.

I am assuming this won't be covered through warranty but is there anything that can be done? I have heard that there is a possibility that it can't be repaired - we will both be devastated if this is the case as it was a 40th birthday gift and I had it engraved with something special.

Does anyone have any ideas/thoughts what we can do please?

TIA

I would try the warranty route first before making an assumption.

Connector on what, the Ipod, the ipod dock on the stereo, the USB connector?
  • Hi Nutty
I once stood on my Ipod shuffle USB charger adapter and totally knackered it. If you go on the apple website and look at the support section there is an option to arrange a repair.
I filled in an online form and explained what I had done, and they arranged delivery of a new one and return of the broken one. It was very simple, and even though I made it clear I had stood on it, they did it for free!
    Hope this helps

Speak with Apple - I have found they have excellent customer service.

Whenever you have a problem with a product, the manufacturer/retailer should be your first call, EVEN if the item is out of its warranty - they may be in a position the advise you as to the best course of action. In some cases, they may even fix it for no fee if it's a known problem (e.g. the Xbox 360 ring of death -well outside the warranty period).

This should be first nature to anyone in any situation.
