Buying theatre tickets on credit card. Does that cover me if show cancelled?

I've just booked 3 tickets to see Tony Bennett in concert in July (V. expensive of course).

Given his age, it occurred to me that the show could be cancelled (a la Michael Jackson). Sorry, not meaning to wish anything bad on good old TB.

So, instead of paying on my debit card, I put it on my credit card. If the worst happened, and the theatre didn't refund, I could get this money back from Barclaycard.

Have I got the logic right?
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

Did you buy direct or through an agent?

I think it would cover you. ISTR that people could claim off their CC for their tickets when Michael Jackson died.

    Jolly good.

Of course we REALLY hope we don't need to find out, but I'd rather not lose over £100 if we don't get to see him.

It's very unlikely that the theatre will not give you a refund especially if a refund is indicated in their Terms and Conditions for canceled events. However if this does happen, like what CannyJock said, you are protected by by the law under section 75 which covers purchases between £100 and £30,000 on a credit card, meaning you will be able to get a refund from your credit card company. Your ticket should be at least £100 for it to be covered, I think.

In addition to that, you mentioned that you purchased the ticket directly with the theatre? Is it through Ticketmaster or See Tickets? Because with Ticketmaster, they will refund the face value of the ticket, plus the booking fee "in accordance with the guidelines of the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers". However if it's with See Tickets, they will only refund the face value of the ticket, which is bad news for you since your ticket is quite expensive as you have said.

Now I have a question, will section 75 still cover you if you purchased through eBay or other auction sites?

I think it would just depend if you paid the seller directly with a credit card.

Which I'm not sure if you can even do that on eBay can you?

If you pay via Paypal - there is no Section 75 protection because there is no direct link between the credit card issuer and the seller.

How does credit card payment work on eBay? If it's going through a third party - then there will be no Section 75 cover.

The seller would have to have merchant banking set up and accept your credit card payment directly.

    ????????????????

NO, I purchased DIRECTLY WITH THE THEATRE. I rang up the theatre box office and gave them my credit card number.

Also it's worth noticing that companies give you EXTRA protection.
e.g. I've seen it on Eggs website that they cover you if you can't go through illness.
It's worth considering your choice of payment method and also which cards to have in your wallet.

the theatre would issue refunds. They only don't refund if you want to cancell. They can't keep the money for something that didn't happen. They have insurence for that
