Panicking and Baines & Ernst

Hi guys
I'm going on holiday next week (mum's paying for us all) and I am seriously worried about coming home to another pile of bills and demands and a voicemial full of sarcastic comments from people we owe money to.
I am trying to remortgage the house at the moment to release teh equity and pay off some of thelarger stuff but it all seems so hard to take.
I know that when I come back I willl have letters from evryone, as I do every month, because Baines & Ernst basically don't do what they are paid to do - endless problems with the debts being bought and sold, wrong account or reference numbers. B&E are very nice people I am sure but £60 a month for them to send some cheques out seems a huge amount - has anyone else been with them and then stopped using them?

    Stop using them now!!!!!!!

Other peeps on here use CCCS - link at top of site???? - charity so free. Please phone now and make an appt for when you get back from holiday - it will put your mind at ease. Then sort it when you get back. Have a good break - good old bank of mum !
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Hi terriblesaver,as said many a time on here don't use fee charging debt managment companies, the 60/month you pay to them could go towards your debt.
Now lecture over  ,you need to contact CCCS or Payplan ASAP and get your DMP sorted out with one of them.:D
The only experience of B&E I've had was about 11 years ago,we phoned them to find out aboput their services, they were very nice but when we said no they didn't leave us alone and THEY got threatening!
Hope you enjoy your hols, try not to think about the debts while you're away, post an SOA and see if someone can help you manage in the meantime.

  • Thanks people - stupidly went to B&E three years ago! May 2003 at £60.00 per month £2280!!! OMG. Can't belive I could have paid off 2 credit crads with that. They are extremly nice on the phone and said all the right things and at the time I had no idea about CCCS. The beauty of hindsight eh? Bank of mum is a stellar thing but I feel really bad that she keeps bailing us out and although she NEVER asks for a penny back she is always bailing us out of this and that situation. She even buys all of our daughters clothes for her and cooks for us every day of the week beacuse food shopping is so bloody expensive!
Is it best to contact all the people I owe before I cancel B&E or go ahead and cancel then write to tell all telling them i am going to try and go through CCCS? Confused, fed up, terrified and sick of being broke and beholden to oithers!

Whatever you decide, maybe you could unplug your phone from the wall, then you won't have any nasty messages when you get home ;)

Have a lovely time, and bring us all a stick of rock! :)

Personally, don't know if this is the right or wrong thing to do,but I would contact CCCS and tell them your situation,I would imagine they will tell you how to deal with B&E,I wouldn't tell B&E what you're planning as they will try every trick in the book to keep your custom, don't be bullied by them, you know that going with CCCS makes more sense,I have only heard good things about CCCS,so I would try not to worry.
Make sure you spoil your mum she sounds an absolute treasure!

Unfortunately Baines & Ernst was the very first debt management company that I contacted. They were extremely friendly and helpful to begin with but once I was a client they didn't really care. Also I found them to be very slow. When I called them to cancel the DMP the woman was so rude! I'm glad I'm no longer a client of theirs. I agree with the others contact either PayPlan or CCCS.

    Have a lovely holiday.

they were only friendly first as they wanted to get their fat greedy scummy hands on your money. argh i hate DMC'S like that. I think we should have a name and shame of scummy DMC'S on here. What was she saying to do when you cancelled the DMP?
