morrisons greenhouse
This is a greenhouse I am thinking of getting from Morrisons (Wilkos website is the same one, but cheaper in Morrisons)

Has anyone got any experience of these at all? I dont dare get a glass one in my garden as my son thinks he is the next Steven Gerrard (and has a kick to prove it!!) so it wouldnt last 5 mins.
I know I will have to weight it down etc, but has anyone got one/used one before?
Thanks!

Yes i have one of those greenhouses wind plays havoc with it tosses it round the garden even with weight the joints on it are all plastic and tend to break as well, the cover rips easily but there are newish green reinforced covers people are useing that might be better. there are greenhouses for sale with plastic glass polycarb that you might think of looking at Sorry to be a killjoy but you asked. Have you looked at this (Norfolk i am useing now but the ultimate series)

thanks balloo, i cant afford (nor do i want) a permanent greenhouse at the moment otherwise i would have gone for something like that. perhaps when my son is a little older!
i plan on putting it in quite a sheltered spot in the garden, in a corner spot next to 2 fences, so hopefully this will help shield some of the wind.Married the absolute love of my life on Sunday May 6th and I couldnt be happier!!!0 -
Just out of interest we once had a panic while my mum and dad's GLASS and METAL greenhouse was being hit by strong wind - me and mum holding the flipping thing down while dad dismantled it DURING THE GALES....sliding the glass panes out in order to prevent them getting blown out/away and smashed!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Not sturdy in any sort of wind, basically. But if you do decide to get one, place it so that the door faces away from the prevailing wind, as you would a tent. If the wind blows in through the door or under the flaps it will lift the cover right off the frame. If the cover is tied onto the frame inside it will lift the frame too. The only additional security you could add is some sort of external guying system or storm straps, as you would for a tent in high winds.Val.0

We have one of those "greenhouses" It is in the most sheltered part of my garden and it's tied down and got bricks round the bottom. It still moves about if we have stong winds and as we live at the top of a hill that is quite frequent.I am looking for a bigger greenhouse and I want to know which is best. The glass or the plastic panes. Can anyone help me?:)0

Based on research I did Polycarb / plastic is safer & warmer I looked at Norfolk Greenkouse products as they are quite reasonable but again they have a few negative comments about panels blowing out etc etc so I decided to buy a more expensive one in aluminium with polycarb panels.
It was difficult to put up as there was no one to help apart from an older neighbour who kept telling me everything I was doing wrong  anyway strong gales followed which blew 2 panels out but silicon sealant & gaffer tape have kept it secure ever since
The company I chose was Greenhouse warehouse who were excellent.Theres only two rules to remember1) Im always right2) See rule 10 -
Thanks for that Davey.I thought the polycarb would be better, especially as it is so windy here.I will have a look on Greenhouse Warehouse and I have seen one on ebay.It is almost £300 :eek:so I didn't want to make a mistake. Thanks again.:)0

Hi BLUis, hope you don't mind me asking, but do you know how much they are in Morissons? I've been looking at some sort of polytunnel/cheap greenhouse as i'm going to be overrun the amount of seeds i've bought!! Thanks, Donna0
