Things to do in High Wycombe

Hey all

I managed to get one of the cheap rooms at De Vere hotels from the offer that was posted on MSE last month. I'm staying at the one in High Wycombe for 2 nights over Easter weekend, with 2 or 3 friends.

Does anyone know the area? And suggest some things to do nearby? We are all travelling by train so won't have a car.

We had thought of going to London for a day but to be honest we would prefer a quiet relaxing weekend. We are all females in our 20's.

TIA

  • TBH There isn't much exciting to do in High Wycombe apart from the usual shopping/bowling/cinema.

You could visit hughenden manor or park for a wander if that is your kind of thing http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-hughendenmanor/

I don't know the High Wycombe Hotel, but most Devere venue hotels are in quieter rural locations, so I am sure you will have a peaceful time. It might be an idea to have a look at review sites like tripadvisor, as people often in their reviews discuss attractions and places to eat etc that are near hotels.

About coming into London over the Easter weekend, check the trains and tubes first as there are a lot of lines closed to do track work over that weekend.

Dont get carried away with the ideas of the caves being like cheddar...... it's more like a long tunnel! Quite fun, but won't take long.

Marlow is not too far, pretty riverside walks, good shops and few decent eating places. Bit further on you have Henley - again nice shops (few of them) and river walks etc. High Wycombe has a theatre that has shows/dance etc called Wycombe Swan. Town is not too pretty and not too exciting but you could kill an hour or two there. You're probably better off sticking to the countryside if you're near it.

There are a couple of cinemas around H.W., and small leisure centres too. Big John Lewis outlet, but most of these people get to by car, so you'd have to look up buses etc.

    Have fun, anyway!

If it's a nice day you can walk from Marlow towards Henley along the river. Very nice walk. More suited towards couples though!

Generally Wycombe is a bit scummy meh, the cinemas quite good, and bowling.

Buses do go to Marlow from centre of town.

As already said you can get train to Marylebone if you want to go into London.
          3. Ooh thanks all! I like the idea of Windsor or Henley. I've been to Windsor before and it was lovely.

I'm putting together a notebook now of things to do and tel no's etc!
