Free Wall Insulation

I have a problem which I can’t resolve – maybe you can help.
There are various schemes at the moment which offer free home wall insulation for certain people who are on disability or other benefits. My sister who is 56 suffered from a brain tumour which has been removed but left her disabled. She is blind in one eye, cannot speak coherently, her right hand is useless and she walks with a limp. My father lives with her he is 81 and has emphysema so they kind of look after each other. Anyway the problem is that they qualify for the scheme but they live in an end ground floor maisonette but the people in the above flat don’t qualify for the scheme and cannot afford to pay for the insulation, and the companies say they can’t just do the ground floor.
My sister would benefit from the insulation as she has lined the walls with polystyrene to keep in the heat and she has the central heating on quite high but it is still chilly.
So the only way she could get the insulation is to pay herself for the upstairs to be done – doesn’t seem fair does it ?
Hope you can help.

seems a bit odd the company will not do it??? I suggest you look elsewhere and get citizens advise or local MP involved. Thoughcavity wall insulation helps keep the core of the walls warmer, the effect will not be that noticable instantly. There maybe other issues that cause the cold. Hope this helps

This is the site you need and you can apply on line do not pay any company because the scheme has it's own installers

Would have thought having Polystyrene on the walls is not good, aren't they deemed a fire risk these days.
You mention the 81 year old residing at the property, what about the local 'Age Concern' would they be able to undertake a home visit to discuss possible options.

    Best wishes

Polystyrene used in homes is now flame retardant!
