We have a newly plastered house, but no heating. How important is it that the plaster drys completly before painting?

Some areas are salmon pink dried colour, others still dark brown. I was going to mist coat everywhere, or do I have to be patient and wait.

Wait till plaster is completely pink all over before attempting any painting.

Also be aware that as soon as you turn your heating on you might have some hairline cracks appearing, its nothing to worry about, this normally happens to new plaster that has dried in a cold room with no heating.
It would have been better to have the heating on very very low.
  • We will have the heating on soon, sounds like we might end up with a few cracks!

As regards to the extra £400, he said teh walls were very wonky and needed extra work. Materials cost £500 in the end, we used tonnes of board finish. And we put in a sound proofing area.

Not happy to pay this extra amount. What is the point in getting a quote if you are then told it is £400 more?

Anna, my daughter has recently had a 5 bedroom house extended and totally replastered. The cost of the plastering was £6K, but it was a big house.

The point I want to make though is when the heating went back on, this was December, inspete of us running an industrial dehumidifier all through the build and plastering, the amount of water vapour produced was unbelievable. The walls that had already dried pink wet out again, every it ie books paper etc acted like blotting paper and the walls that had been given a coat of trade matt started towet out again. Worse still the new tongue and grooved flooring all cupped and lifted. Again the amount of water was incredible, so ensure you give max ventillation even dispite the waste or you will have problems
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
