Just a thought but any way he can raise the money via the club, ie raffles, tombolos etc, some way to help lesson the blow0
-
Well negligence over nine years caused this problem but never the less he should get a significant amount of time to pay it off0

Yes, it is very upsetting when one is caught fiddling the books. Very convenient to slip in to a depression. It is, of course, all E-on's stupid fault. Not at all your father's for not bothering his backside over nine years to correct his business affairs.
Some people.
freaksaver is looking for advice not abuse.
Kim I often find your brusqueness refreshing but not on this occasion. Try to be more constructive.0 -
Are the supplier billing the lock-up account based on thew correct meter details? Or has the meter been changed sometime during the last 9 years. If it has been changed, was the new meter billed using the correct start reading, and the old meter billed according to the correct final meter reading. (There is normally a paper card placed behind the meter with the readings when the meter was changed written on it).0

Hi freaksaver - From the Plus, then Minus and then Plus demands from EON, it seems that the debt figure now being demanded is £22K, and the 9 year period takes it back to a year prior to the 2002 Utilities Act which allowed distributors to serve customers outside their regional area. - So on the face of it, just one company has been supplying the club for the entire 9 year period and should have an unbroken record of actual and estimated meter readings.
Quite what EON mean by the term 'Meter Slippage' for which they reduced the bill is difficult to understand, but what it does show is that EON's 'unbroken' record is unreliable, and the only way to get accurate figures is to track back to last proper meter reading, subtract it from the present reading, and then re-calculate a detailed bill that includes all the tariff periods and price changes that have been made over that period.
The account holder - Your Dad ? - should write to EON asking that they do just that
You don't mention as to wether or not this meter that 'Slips' has been changed, if it hasn't, ask why in the letter and head the letter Complaint
Best of Luck0 -
Hi freaksaver,
I am sorry but there is not much more I can add to this thread, there is already some good information.
As this is a business account, things are slightly different from domestic.
Basically the account has been with E.ON for 9 years, all of the bills have been under estimated for this period, E.ON have tried to contact the business to gain an up to date meter reading but have not been able to obtain this.
They have now got an accurate reading and billed the account, this has resulted in a big catch up bill.
Have you checked all of the details on the new bill, does the meter reading reflect what is on the meter, is the meter serial number correct.
I agree with dogshome and think you need clarification of what the meter slipping means and why this has reduced the balance so much.
Cardew has already advised on the six year billing period. Has this been reflected in the balance reduction?
I hope you are able to come to a resolution.

If the meter is slipping then how can it be relied upon to generate consumption. Anything is just an estimate. I would get facts together and go to the papers if they dont play ball.0

Someone needs to do a pysical check on the meter to see if it is faulty, perhaps sticking a check meter in.
Is the Club solley used by your Dad, or have others been using the facility who can contribute to the bill?0 -

However, as they were billing the club & the club were paying, albeit on estimated readings, there was no debt until the first time they billed based on an accurate reading. That, I believe, is technically when the 6 year clock starts.
I suppose there is a potential issue here with E.On failing to have inspected/read the meter at least once every 2 years as specified in their supply licence conditions ... but that's another story where nPower appear to like to theaten obtaining entry warrants (but haven't yet;)) but E.On presumably consider making a few (failed) phone calls to obtain a latest reading to be considered making a 'reasonable attempt'."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
You may also want to check what unit rate has been applied to the usage- 9 years ago, prices were a lot lower than they are today, and I would suggest that an estimate should be made to tie back consumption to the price that would have been in effect when the power was used. Otherwise they're paying for 9 years worth of leccy at today's rate.0
