Ebayer not stating delivery charge

Hi all,

I bought a new bed off an ebay seller and subsequently paid. The item is described as having free delivery so I asked for the bed to be delivered on a Saturday. The seller has contacted me to say there is a £50 fee for a Saturday delivery but I can't for the life of me find this charge on the web page. I can understand Saturday rates being higher but I feel a bit put out this detail has been omitted from the description. Do I have to pay it?

Thanks

Normal deliveries do not include weekends. A Saturday is a weekend and should incur a charge.

Does it state anywhere that delivery is on a weekday only?

Generally, Delivery on Bulky items is Mon-Fri anyway isn't it?
If the buyer has offered free delivery on a Bed, to be honest i think you're lucky anyway, the cost of delivering somthing like that can easily cost more than £50 anyway given the cost of wages/diesel and anything else that can crop up..

I wouldn't try to argue about the cost if you want to be specific as to have a saturday delivery..
Instead, cant you get it delivered to a friends house, or ask them to leave in the garage or somthing similar if you're not available?
    Almost..debt free.. :P:money:
  • I would have thought that by offering free delivery they are fulfilling their end of the bargain by delivering it, any day of the week. Most couriers deliver monday-friday, indeed everything I've ever had delivered by courier has come monday-friday so I don't think you really have a case.

I think I would be a bit narked if it hadnt said that the free delivery only applied to weekday deliveries - whether it is "usual" or not is not the point...!! (IMHO)

I think, as others have said, that to have it delivered on a weekend is a bonus - so if that's all you can manage, I would send them a message and request that they clarify this for future sales, but ultimately, if you want it delivered on a saturday, I think you'll have to bite the bullet.
Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??

    sorry have to disagree
the seller will send by courier, and it will be delivered when they deliver
Saturday is always extra for a courier
look at it this way,if you order an item sent by RM,would you insist on a Saturday delivery?

No, I wouldn't insist on a saturday delivery, of course - but I would expect the terms of delivery to be stated.
    (especially by a business seller)

That is my opinion, others differ - but I thought it was important to tell the OP that they weren't the only one to consider it to be a bit unclear.

  • Ive been buying quite a bit on the internet lately for my baby due soon..Argos, Toys R Us, Mothercare all state that saturday is chargeable at extra.

If it says free delivery then once paid you would expect it to be sent and arrive in a few days, but no one could assume you can then nominate the day for free.
    Nice to save.

You have the benefit of buying from high street retailers who deliver - I can't remember the last time I did, so I'm not au fait with the monday-friday delivery thingy - this is all I'm saying - that businesses cannot assume their customers are aware of this, seemingly common, practice.

it is and has been common practice with couriers from day dot
flip it around, why would you expect to get a delivery on a set day?
