How much can you expect to knock off the price of a pre-reg?

I'm thinking of buying a car that has a list price is £14,500 but I can expect to haggle that down to around £12,500. Anyway, the dealer said he had some pre-reg cars with delivery miles on them. Baring in mind you can get £2000 off the list price, how much more should you expect to get off for a pre-reg with last years plates instead of the new 10s?

  • Should get it for £8999 easy. :/

What is it? A pre reg, usually isn't that much cheaper than a rock bottom price on a brand new car.

Depends on the car. What make and model is it?

  • Depends on lots of factors - sometimes you can get a new one for the same price as a pre reg, and sometimes pre reg are cheaper.

    What make / model?

You also need to factor in that sometimes you get less benefits with a pre reg car i.e. it will be excluded from any promotions like 0%, servicing packages etc.

Also you get benefits with your car insurance like new for old if written off in first year etc.

Did you not just contradict yourself there?

IF it can be bought for £12500 new with a heavy discount, i think the dealer will be asking probably £10999.

Sometimes sarcasm is not easily conveyed on a forum.

£10999 you say, ah that seems reasonable. I was thinking more like £11,422.93 a free tank of fuel and half a mud flap......................actually i don't have a bl00dy scooby do cos we still don't know what car it is.
  • Yeah, probably should have mentioned the car. Kia Cee'd 1.6 CRDi 2 115bhp.

There was a facelift back end of lat year. make sure the pre-reg is the newer model, or expect a bigger discount.

I might say I am slightly surprised they have a pre-reg sitting there just now. Some manufacturers are pretty tight on pricing and Kia are one of them.

Find out when the car was built?
