Loft ladder installation quote

I recently received a quote for a loft ladder installation (a basic 3 piece ladder you can get from B and Q) and 9m square of boards in my loft. here is the quote breakdown.

3 section loft ladder price £61.00
Labour for fitting £129.00

Replacement framing - including trimmers, linning, door stop, architrave, trap door, hinges, catch and pole £45.00
Labour cost £40.00

9sqm Loft boarding £65.00
Labour cost £160.00

Total Labour= £329.00
Materials = 171.00

I should note that the loft does not require any modification of the loft opening or floor boards or anything other than what is stated.

Is this fair?

Try these people,if they do the size that you want ,they are good value for money and time wise even with re-trimming the existing opening its a days work....Not sure where you are but a decent chippy here in East Sussex would charge between £150-£200 a day ...Ive brought tower scaffolds from them and they seem to be fine to deal with.

PS if the existing lofthatch doesn't need too much work then its a mornings work.

he seems to be charging you twice to fit the loft ladder. that price should include all hatch work.
id fit loft ladders all day long for that sort of money. 6 screws at most.
    (without any hatch problems).

days labour is around £100-£120...at least he has written it out and stated what he is charging you ..his total labour is £160 so depending on your area then its fine...fitting a ladder is easy fitting the boards is easy fitting the swing door easy..its all just time consuming

I fitted our loft ladder, it took less than 30 mins, it involved drilling 6 holes and then screwing the brackets in place and slidding the ladder into the brackets.

I am no DIY expert but it is not a difficult job.

If the loft hatch doesn't require any modification why are they charging you to modify it? The guys that did ours just reversed our hatch cover so it swung downwards and put a catch on it..

    ie:
Replacement framing - including trimmers, linning, door stop, architrave, trap door, hinges, catch and pole £45.00
    Labour cost £40.00

I was walking through my shopping centre this morning and you know you get these little stalls all over the place, buy your gold, sky TV etc, I just happened to see a stall offering to install your loft ladder including trimmings etc for £125.

Hi total labour is £329 and he said it would take a day to complete. I asked him to write it all out because i thought £500 was excessive.

I have since got in touch with another guy who is charging £120 labour.
