Delay with new build - some advice please

Hi there,

It's not a major issue at the moment but just wondered if I could have some thoughts with regard to the new build which is currently being built for me.

It was bought off plan and I of course appreciate and took on board the risks this entails knowing full well that it may be that it doesn't happen for whatever reason. To this end I ensured the solicitor put in a long stop date which is 23rd July. Honestly never thought it would be an issue but of course glad it's been included.

Anyway, the build began in November and there was some delay with the snow etc., in January and of course with christmas/new year being in the middle of it. I was told the build would take around 16 weeks so miles off from the mortgage offer expiry of end of July and the longstop date.

I've been emailing regularly to get more info on how it's going and they responded on Monday to say that the completion date was in line with the long stop date in July. I responded just to get some assurance that it wouldn't be any later and she just said was that their aim was to come in for that date.

I'm going along tomorrow to assess whether I need any further electrical points/tv points and just wondered if I should say any further/put any pressure on them etc., Friends had suggested I ask for some kind of compensation for the delay but i think this is a bit daft at this stage as I don't even know there's going to be an issue other than the fact that it's delayed.

Anyway, just wondered if anyone had similar experiences or any recommendations? At the end of it all, at least if the worst happens I can walk away, just that you get your head set on something don't you?

Thanks for any thoughts.
