Possible refund on windows when purchasing PC

Quite an interesting read, and not something I had heard of (or even thought possible) until today.

Basically, a person purchased a desktop from Dell, replaced his preinstalled version of windows for a version of linux (without activating it), and wanted a refund of the cost of windows. After much negotiation, Dell agreed to refund an amount ($50 or so) back to his credit card.
Article is american, but references that at least one person has managed same thing in UK.
