Sending Credit Card Details by email

From experience of working within the hotel industry, I can confirm that it is standard practice to request a fax copy of credit card details. They are only meant to secure a booking and are not to be debited (unless you are pre-paying a room!).

We would never request anyone to send their details via email, but I guess some hotels figure that most people have access to email these days instead of faxes.

If a booking is made on a hotels website, they are normally secure. A back up fax would not be necessary then, unless you are booking for someone else.
ie: You are using your card to pay for Mr Jones, who may not have a credit card.

Personally, I would never email my details.

Ive been ordering things from the internet since 2000, a few times I have sent my credit card information through an email, usually I split it up into 2 emails.

I stopped doing this though when someone stole my credit card information and ordered thousands of pounds of stuff off the internet. The only thing I could think of that anyone could have got hold of my information was through those emails and subsequently I stopped doing this. Had no problems since touch wood!
