Hello.
My belkin F5D7630-4A has now died and I'm looking for a replacement router. I have looked at some of the manufacturers, Belkin, Netgear, Linksys and Zyxel but am am a bit stumped due to the large choice.
I don't know whether I want to go for a 108/125Mbps router, as that woudl require upgrading all my wireless cards to make use of it - not something I want to do at present but maybe in the future?
Also, a lot of these models talk about ADSL 2 and ADSL 2+ which I'm not sure about. What are the differences between this and the normal aADSL? I'll be using this on a 2Mbps line until August, and then on an 8Mbps line.
Also, I'm interested in these SIP routers being talked about, and might like the idea of being able to use my router as a SIP gateway without having to leave the computer on for VoIP calls.
Finally I do want to have good security. My belkin did an OK job, but I still had to restart it more times than I felt comfortable after syn and other attacks seemed to cripple it, and this was just through normal net usage.
If anyone can recommend a good router I'd be very grateful. I prefer to stay clear of D-Link as my they have atrotious customer service from past experience. I also want something that is reliable, and am prepared to pay what it is worth to get it.
Also, if you have personal experiences of any of the routers youre recommending, please let me know how you find them.
Thanks.
Cheers and take care.
Hussein.

Don't Belkin have a lifetime warranty? If so, give them a call and ask for a replacement.
If you are going to get a new one, I'd recommend a Netgear, cos they look nice, and work. Their is little point going for any of the highspeed ones yet, they won't have any impact on your internet browsing speed. A 54G one should be ok.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
If you want a router that does what yours did then replace it with the same model.

Thanks. I don't like the belkin as the security on it seems really shoddy. After any more than two or three syn attacks, the whole thing just shuts down making the net unuseable. Security is all well and good, but if you're having to restart the router every time something happens, and it's not even a dedicated attack, what's the point? There have been many times when I had to come back home just to restart this thing due to something minor.
Anyone know a netgear that has SIP built into it but that also has LAN ports?
Thanks.

Take a look at draytek.co.uk
I have the 2800VG which has 2 VoIP ports and wireless.
