No choice when switching electricity

Options
Hi
Apologies if this has been dealt with before, so many posts! I was in the process of trying to get my electricity bill down and to that end I was looking at switching. The problem I have is that my options are zero as far as I can make out. I have overnight storage heaters on one electicity meter and standard eletricity on another. Speaking to the supplier (Scottish Hydro Elecrtic) it seems that my heaters are charged at one tariff regardless of time of day used, and the rest of my electricity at a higher rate. If I were to try and change the new company would need to do one of two things, put in their meters to charge me in the same way (costly and not an option as I rent) or charge night-time and day-time separate, so if heaters on during the day (I don't have a huge amount of control with them) they are charged at higher rate. My bills are not wonderful (hence the desire to see if I could get a better deal) but bearable, what peeves me is that I appear to have no choice and there is no competition. Is this right or have I got the wrong end of the stick. Thanks in advance.

You appear to be on an Economy 10 plan or similar.

Unfortunately, most suppliers won't accept new customers on this type of plan. Only the legacy supplier is obliged to continue to support it for existing customers.

That does mean you have little choice.

However, the E.On rep on here said they would accept new customers on E10. Worth contacting them to see ... no idea if they will be any cheaper though.

As you don't own the property, any other option such as changing the meters and possibly the associated wiring to support a more widely accepted tariff isn't really an option (unless the landlord agrees). It might be better to just look for a different rental property if you feel the current one doesn't suit you perfectly.
