Help required:Pushchair travel bag/protection required for flights

Options
Hi,

We going on holiday in a few weeks time with our baby and having spoken to a few people they have had bad experiences where their pushchair has got damaged while in transit.
Is there any way to protect the pram, maybe with a travel bag that covers the pushchair, similar to the what the Quinny Zapp has.

We got a Britax Zeta.

All recommendations/suggestions welcome.

Regards,
Shamiel

  • To be honest, if your pram is precious to you don't take it.

Buy yourself a Maclaren or similar (some are suitable from birth) and then if there is any damage it won't matter. Putting the pram in a bag won't necessarily save it.

I travelled around the world when my son was 6 months old. I purchased a Maclaren XT (more expensive than others, but it was lovely) all that happened was the hood of the pushchair was damaged (although I think that was done by an aunty we saw out in Australia who didn't understand the hood had to go down before collapsing it and I think she broke it!) I just contacted Maclaren and they sent out a new hood to me.

I still use the same Maclaren now.

    Have a nice holiday

I would agree - it's probably cheaper to buy a little umbrella fold buggy or a second-hand buggy at a boot sale than a bag to put it in.

yup, we got a cheap 2nd hand pushchair from a car boot. if it's cheap enough u can always leave it there instead of bringing it home if u want aswell! we paid £5 for ours & was used for months after at grandmas aswell.

I found this company selling the buggy bags I was looking for. Costs under £15. They also sell a case for your car seat.

just back from a long-haul trip with a 22 month old and our old umbrella fold did sterling service again! we were allowed to take it to the plane door and 3 out of 4 times it was returned to us as we got off - the final time we had to go to baggage reclaim with a very tired toddler and that was a pain.
my tips - get a set of walking reins and harness if your baby is standing at all - then you can fiddle with passport and tickets and hang on so that your precious child does not get on the luggage carousel/run over by a trolley etc. get them used to using them before you go. you will be hanging around airports and a bit of leg stretching might be useful.
use an ordinary luggage strap around your buggy, it gives the folding clips a bit of support and is quick and easy to remove. you don't want to be fussing with anything fiddly with a stroppy baby or toddler, anxious crew and an impatient line of other passengers behind you.
you might have to put your stroller through the securtity x ray machine or be subject to a search - bear this is mind and minimise the amount of junk you have hanging on it!
enjoy your trip, we've travelled with little ones for years and never had any problems flying with pushchairs.

Agree re cheap buggy - we got a £15 one from Argos that did the job.

One thing to note though, I would take it up with you on to the tarmac and let the ground crew load it, that always worked for us but the one time we decided to stow it away at check in (as DS was 3 by this time and more mobile) it was left at Edinburgh Airport! So we spent a fortnight having to carry him when he was tired and he had nowhere to sleep if we were out in the evening.

    Most annoying.

this is a bargain and i have just been to disney paris and would recommend using a cheap buggy as mine was ruined!! and yes i agree keep it with you until the plane steps and dont leave the plane on landing till you get it back if possible.

Another vote for the maclaren techno, we wer lucky to get one from costco for £60 ish a while back and we bought it as a cheapie for holidays and to stay in the boot of the car and to be honest as the other advice mentions hold onto it till boarding, our suitcases came back a little damaged but not the buggy. Or i think there is a buggy that can fold down wee enough to fit in the overhead luggage section.
The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
