Please help - internet connection problems

Hi All
Please can someone shed some light on a problem we have been having at home for the last few days? OH thought it was a computer problem but it is obvious that the problem is with the internet connection – we had both laptops on last night and they both lost the internet connection at the same time and reconnected at the same time. This happened several times last night and we have had difficulty connecting to the internet generally over the past few days – last night was the first experiment with 2 computers.
I have wireless broadband provided by Talk Talk and I don’t think there is a problem with the router. I have a few theories but perhaps someone can tell me whether any of these are likely and what I could possibly do about it (e.g. complain to Talk Talk)?
· The weather?
· The roadworks taking place on the road outside our house?
· Router problem?
· Server problem?
· Lots of internet ‘traffic’?
· Poor signal in the area? (we have a very poor mobile phone signal in our house)
Any assistance gratefully received!

You should check out with talktalk first, see if there are any problems in your area. They should be able to run a test on your line to check for any problems. Last time we had the same sort of problem you're having, we switched the router off and on again. Also, if you get the webpage opening and it has a "diagnose connection problems" button, click it to see if that brings anything upNorn Iron Club Member 417:beer:0

possible interference from another nearby router , go into the admin panel for the router and click on the wirless part . Look for channels , its normally set to automatice so change it to manual and try different channels across the range to see if it still happensEx forum ambassador

Connect one of the laptops directly to the router using a lan cable. If this one drops as well you will know the problem is not with the wireless section, leaving only the router, the wiring and the telephone socket/filters. Other than those it would be a problem with Talk Talk.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

2) Almost possible if roadworks hit your BT line/Cable
3) Possibly
4) Possibly
5) Unlikely due to roadworks
6) definitely not
Sorry
couln't resist,
It could be other intererence from other networks however have you tried using a wired connection from 1 laptop to the router, that would rule out a few of the other possibities. Also let us know which router you have and also if you normally use the lappys outside of the home environment ie on wifi outside home. Also it may help if you tell us which version of Windows/Linux/Mac OS used.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Like I always suggest on my previous threads, forget about any wireless issues (until later) if the same issue(s) occur with a fixed wired Ethernet connection. And if the same problems do occur then start resolving the issues with Talk Talk over a wired-only connection. Then shift to the wireless issues if they still exist  .

Thanks everyone for your suggestions - I will have an experiment later on!
Typically of course, it behaved itself quite well yesterday evening!
I will report back later.PigginSkint's debt free diary

Sam old bean and others, have you ever tried to get any help from TalkTalk?
The only thing you can be sure to get from TalkTalk is a bill! And threats of legal action if you don't pay, as I did even though I left them six months before.0
