Welcome back Rusty :j So good to see you on here again, you have been missed.mumoffour77 wrote: »so the next best thing would be cards....do a variety of them and place a stand at reception...(I know the girls on the desk would happily sell them and allocate the money to the appropiate coffers:) The nurses would also do this too!!
Then i was thinking even more.....maybe I could go up and show some of the more able patients/residents how to make cards!! It would give me something to do and help them help themselves!
What do you all think?
Definitely :T . I think it's a wonderful idea. A few years ago I used to go to a card club, word got around and people with mental health issues came along. Their carers would bring them and the types of cards were geared to what they were capable of doing. They had their own special hour before everyone else came (and then the cards were more involved) and anyone who felt they could tackle the more involved cards would give it a go too. It was a great success and everyone enjoyed it.0 -
Yaaayyyy, Rusty's back, Rusty's back :j :j :j
Now theWife, I say have to dust off my own very negelcted cossie for that cake that Tired mom has kindly provided for the celebration, how fab does that look!!!
Mumoffour, both your ideas sound fantastic, I would love to make a few cards and send you if you'll let me or some stash to use for others to make cards? Please PM me your address and I'll pop some bits in the post x
Sal, that's awful, glad you have your sensible head on and contacted the solicitor xxx
Dawnteabag, completely see how hard it would be with a child on your own. Ignore your boss' comments and do what you need toDon't you just blinking hate it when you say you can't do something and then someone comes back and tells you about everyone else who can

Well done dragonllew.....you deserve it and more!! (you reap what you sow and honestly your kindness astounded me. Im still in shock!!)
Right I have posted before about my DH.....and im going to make cards for his hospital....to raise money for patient funds!! DH is a "resident" in the hospital and they do so much for him, when I cant be there, they take him out to the cinema....walks....shopping.....and they do this with all their residents!! Yesterday when i was up with the children they had admitted a youngish boy around 18/19...and they were looking for things for him to do...and they had nothing....my DS was going to give him his nintendo game but it was out of charge and we had no charger!! The young boy had no speech (due to a Traumatic Brain Injury) and it got me thinking about what I could give back!! I have given nappy cakes in for the hospital to raffle and the raised some money...but not everyone has babies IYKWIM.....so the next best thing would be cards....do a variety of them and place a stand at reception...(I know the girls on the desk would happily sell them and allocate the money to the appropiate coffers:) The nurses would also do this too!!

Brilliant....the hospital do have an art dept...and therapist...but my DH doesnt enjoy this.....it could also be the fact that its quite cramped with 7 wheelchairs at a time....most of the patients paint and sometimes they make things out of plaster of paris!!..The therapist is there mon-fri 9-3 so not much scope for those who go out to day centres (DH does one day per week...and others go 2/3 times a week) My Dh has lost the use of his left hand and his left side is generally quite weak...due to his injury being on the right side of his brain...and quite a lot of the patients are similar...but im sure that we could get ways around this:)
It would make me feel of use too.....and i could involve the children....sorry went of a wee bit there!
It is a beautiful hospital and trust headquarters are located on the top floor...so I know that there would be buyers......hey ho....I really think this could work!!:jIm going to be frugal:j:DIm going to be frugal:D;)Im going to be frugal;)Beetlejuice Beetlejuice...................:rotfl:0 -
Hiya ladies
Lovely to see you back again and in good spirits Rusty.
SallyUK - OMG:eek: - I bet you are stunned at seeing that on FB - it's amazing what you can find out isn't it!!! Bit of a shock though I should think! Best of luck with tracking him down.
Juju - I have just become a fan on FB of your page!!!
Gem - have just seen your fan page also and become a fan!!
mumoffour77 - sounds like a great idea and I am sure that the hospital and residents would appreciate it. You may have to get a CRB check though so might be worth checking first.
I am trying to get into the mood to do an Anniversary card - not sure what to do yet but may try a spring style card. The E-mail of the species is more deadly than the mail.0 -
Llyndach - sending you hugs and hoping that you can resolve things, come rant when you need to.
DTB - Does your boss by any chance not have children or if he/she does ones that are seen and not heard! How unrealistic to expect anyone to do that sort of journey you could get stranded anywhere. At least where you are you are safe.
Sally - What a *od. You must be so angry at him and the hurt he is causing so many people.

That's it but ludiscrously you have to have one for every different establishment i.e. I have one for pre-school, one for school and one for Rainbows. I don't work at any but volunteer so have to have them. I know you are talking adults but I think you have to have one if you are working with anyone classed as vulnerable.
I think what you are doing is a lovely idea. Paper crafting is so tactile I am sure they would get alot of enjoyment out of it. I imagine you could do most of the prep beforehand i.e. cutting the mats and sticking double sided tape etc on. I think I have seen somewhere double sided tape that doesn't go right to the edge so it is easier to peel off. Is there a craft supplier local who would maybe supply things.
I am only just starting out so am not a prolific card maker like most of the wonderful ladies on here. If you would like to PM me your details though I would be more than happy to send you some made cards if that is what you'd like or as Rainmac suggested some materials.
